China has marked its strongest overseas Winter Olympics achievement to date following the conclusion of the 2026 Milano Cortina Games, with officials hailing the delegation's record-breaking 15-medal haul. A summary meeting chaired by Gao Zhidan, director of China's General Administration of Sport, highlighted the nation's progress in winter sports since the Beijing 2022 Games.
The 126-strong Chinese team competed in 91 events across seven sports, securing five gold, four silver, and six bronze medals. This surpasses the country's previous overseas Winter Olympics record of 11 total medals set at Vancouver 2010.
Notable performances came from snowboarder Su Yiming and freestyle skier Gu Ailing, who both defended their Olympic titles. Speed skater Ning Zhongyan and aerial skier Xu Mengtao added to China's golden moments, while 21-year-old snowboard prodigy Wang Xindi claimed his first Olympic victory.
"This achievement reflects our athletes' dedication and the growing popularity of winter sports nationwide," Gao stated during the Beijing meeting. The results position China as a rising force in international winter sports, with particular strengths emerging in snowboarding and freestyle skiing disciplines.
