China-Germany Economic Ties Strengthen During Merz’s 2026 Visit

China and Germany have forged stronger economic partnerships following the February 2026 visit of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, with both nations signing over 10 cross-industry agreements spanning automotive innovation, renewable energy infrastructure, and financial technology solutions.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) confirmed the collaborative progress during Thursday's press briefing, highlighting commitments to sustainable development and digital transformation. Key agreements include joint ventures in electric vehicle battery production and smart logistics networks connecting major industrial hubs.

MOFCOM spokesperson He Yongqian emphasized China's continued market liberalization efforts, stating: "Our high-standard opening-up policy creates unprecedented opportunities for German enterprises in advanced manufacturing and green energy sectors."

Both countries plan to activate enhanced cooperation mechanisms this year, including the China-Germany Economic Advisory Committee, to streamline cross-border investments and address global supply chain challenges. The developments follow recent bilateral commitments to align industrial standards and expand third-market collaboration.
