China, Germany Strengthen Economic Ties Amid Global Risks

Chinese Premier Li Qiang emphasized the critical role of Sino-German cooperation in navigating global challenges during a high-level economic symposium in Beijing on Wednesday. Speaking alongside German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Li declared collaborative development as the "only optimal solution" to address emerging risks and ensure mutual security.

The leaders convened at the China-Germany Economic Advisory Committee meeting amid growing economic uncertainties. "The more severe the situation is, the more China and Germany should strengthen cooperation," Li stated, highlighting the nations' complementary industrial strengths and shared commitment to multilateral trade frameworks.

Analysts note the partnership holds particular significance in 2026 as both economies adapt to shifting global supply chains. Recent agreements focus on green energy technology and advanced manufacturing – sectors where German engineering expertise meets China's production capabilities and market scale.

Merz acknowledged the strategic alignment, stating Germany seeks "stable partnerships" to address climate transition costs and digital infrastructure demands. The dialogue comes as European businesses increasingly view the Chinese mainland as both a production base and innovation hub.
