A Chinese national was killed and another injured in a bus accident in central Nepal on Monday, February 23, 2026, according to the Chinese Embassy in Nepal. The incident occurred in Dhading district when a passenger bus veered off the Prithvi Highway and plunged into the Trishuli River during a journey from Pokhara to Kathmandu.
Local authorities reported 19 fatalities and 25 injuries among the 45 passengers on board. The injured Chinese citizen is currently receiving medical care at a nearby hospital. The embassy has pledged to assist affected families and coordinate with Nepali officials to investigate the cause of the accident.
This tragedy highlights ongoing road safety concerns in Nepal’s mountainous regions, particularly along the popular Pokhara-Kathmandu route frequented by tourists and business travelers. The Chinese government has repeatedly urged its citizens abroad to exercise caution during travel.
