China has unveiled a comprehensive strategy to transform its agricultural sector through three key initiatives, as outlined in the 2026 No.1 Central Document. The policy blueprint places food security, rural revitalization, and farmer prosperity at the heart of national modernization efforts.
Zhu Weidong, deputy director of the Office of the Central Financial and Economic Affairs Commission, emphasized the need for cross-sector coordination spanning agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fisheries. The plan also prioritizes vertical integration of production chains from farm to market, alongside cultural-tourism synergies that add value to rural communities.
"Agriculture's role has evolved beyond traditional cultivation," Zhu noted, highlighting emerging trends like precision farming technologies and sustainable practices. The strategy aligns with China's push for quality-focused production and brand development in global agri-markets.
This year's initiatives build on recent progress in rural infrastructure and digital farming tools, positioning agriculture as a cornerstone of China's economic transformation.
