Diplomatic ties between China and Europe took center stage during the 2026 China-Europe Diplomats Spring Festival Gala, held in Beijing during early February to mark the Lunar New Year. Organized by China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Department of European Affairs and the Beijing Service Bureau for Diplomatic Missions, the event brought together approximately 300 diplomats, cultural representatives, and business leaders.
The gala featured traditional Chinese performances including Peking Opera and lion dances, alongside European musical collaborations. Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the event's role in strengthening cultural understanding, stating: "This celebration bridges civilizations through shared appreciation of our diverse traditions."
European Union Ambassador Nicolas Chapuis highlighted the timing of the event, noting increased economic cooperation following recent trade agreements. The gathering concluded with a joint dragon dance symbolizing mutual prosperity – particularly poignant as 2026 marks the Year of the Horse in the Chinese zodiac, associated with perseverance and collective progress.
