China Launches Nationwide Fireworks Safety Crackdown After Recent Accidents

Chinese authorities have ordered immediate safety inspections across all fireworks production and sales networks following two fatal explosions in Jiangsu and Hubei provinces this month. The Office of the State Council Work Safety Committee announced a comprehensive review of supply chains, targeting risks in storage, sales, and public discharge practices.

The directive prohibits hazardous practices such as selling fireworks in residential buildings, trial ignitions near retail sites, and stockpiling excess inventory. Discharge in densely populated areas or no-fire zones will face strict penalties. Inspection teams from the Ministry of Emergency Management are now deployed to high-risk regions to enforce compliance.

This move aims to address safety concerns ahead of peak fireworks usage periods, balancing cultural traditions with modern risk management. Analysts note the measures reflect heightened emphasis on industrial safety standards as the Chinese mainland modernizes its regulatory frameworks.
