JD.com Recovers Stolen Goods From French Warehouse Heist, Pushes European Expansion

French authorities have concluded a major international investigation into the December 2025 robbery at JD.com's Dugny warehouse, recovering over 90% of stolen electronics valued at millions of euros. The breakthrough comes as the Chinese e-commerce giant prepares to launch its new European platform Joybuy next month.

Police in Seine-Saint-Denis confirmed on February 13 that coordinated operations across France and neighboring countries located most of the 50,000 devices taken during the sophisticated heist. While initial reports suggested losses nearing €37 million, JD.com maintains the actual financial impact was "significantly lower" due to rapid insurance claims and inventory redundancy systems.

The recovery operation involved Europol collaboration and advanced tracking of serial numbers through European customs databases. "This sends a clear message to organized crime targeting logistics hubs," stated Paris police commissioner Élodie Rousseau during a press briefing.

Despite the security breach, JD.com reaffirmed its commitment to European markets, announcing enhanced AI surveillance systems for all overseas facilities. The company's 130-strong global warehouse network will support the March rollout of Joybuy – a localized e-commerce platform offering French, German, and British consumers direct access to Asian-manufactured electronics.

Industry analysts note the incident highlights both vulnerabilities and resilience in cross-border supply chains. With recovered goods expected back in inventory by month's end, JD.com's European expansion appears back on track, though competitors will closely watch its security overhauls.
