China, France Urge Stronger UN Role Amid Global Challenges

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot reaffirmed their commitment to multilateral cooperation during high-level talks at the Munich Security Conference on Friday. The discussions underscored both nations' shared priority of strengthening the United Nations' authority in addressing global governance gaps.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized that China and France must 'prevent the world from reverting to the law of the jungle' through coordinated action. He highlighted their unique responsibility as 'independent and responsible major countries' to address pressing issues ranging from climate policy to conflict resolution frameworks.

The ministers agreed to deepen support for each other's multilateral initiatives, with Wang noting that such coordination has become a defining feature of Sino-French relations. Analysts suggest this alignment could influence upcoming debates on UN reform and crisis response mechanisms in 2026.
