China, Czech Republic Seek to Revitalize Strategic Partnership

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Czech Deputy Prime Minister Petr Macinka on February 14, 2026, during the Munich Security Conference, marking a pivotal moment in bilateral relations. The meeting comes as both nations commemorate the 10th anniversary of their strategic partnership established in 2016.

Wang emphasized China's appreciation for the Czech government's renewed efforts to strengthen ties, stating: "China is willing to work with the Czech side to bring relations back to a track of healthy development." He highlighted the importance of mutual respect for core interests, specifically urging adherence to the one-China principle.

Macinka reaffirmed the Czech Republic's recognition of the People's Republic of China as the sole legal government representing all of China, including the Taiwan region. "We look forward to resuming high-level exchanges and expanding cooperation in trade, tourism, and cultural initiatives," the Czech leader stated.

Both parties agreed to accelerate practical collaboration across economic and cultural sectors, with Wang noting that "building mutual trust through multi-level exchanges" remains critical to overcoming recent diplomatic challenges.
