Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China's commitment to fostering dialogue and promoting a political solution to the Ukraine crisis during a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on Friday. The talks, held on the sidelines of the 62nd Munich Security Conference, underscored Beijing's continued emphasis on diplomacy amid ongoing global tensions.
Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the steady growth of bilateral trade in 2025, noting that China remains Ukraine's largest trading partner and primary source of imports. He pledged new humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and called for sustained cooperation to ensure 'steady and healthy development' in cross-border ties.
'China's position has been consistent: we adhere to objectivity, fairness, and active promotion of peace talks,' Wang stated, referencing recent progress in multilateral dialogues. Sybiha acknowledged China's role as a critical economic partner and expressed Kyiv's appreciation for Beijing's peace-building efforts, stating, 'Ukraine looks forward to China playing an important role in achieving an early ceasefire.'
The Ukrainian foreign minister also reaffirmed adherence to the one-China principle and pledged enhanced protections for Chinese citizens and businesses operating in Ukraine. The meeting signals ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two nations as international stakeholders seek pathways to de-escalation.
