China Media Group (CMG) has launched its cutting-edge 8K multi-purpose hall at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics International Broadcast Centre, marking a milestone in ultra-high-definition broadcasting. Operational since the Games' opening, the facility showcases China's leadership in next-generation media technology through a partnership with Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS).
The 94-square-meter space features a massive 275-inch 8K screen and 30-speaker surround sound system, creating what observers describe as "an unprecedented level of immersion." Cheng Kun, the hall's director, emphasized that the venue demonstrates CMG's complete 8K production workflow, from live capture to presentation.
During the Winter Games, CMG is producing 8K international feeds for marquee events including figure skating and short track speed skating competitions. The hall also serves as a cultural showcase, screening CMG's 8K Spring Festival Gala livestream and documentary content to international audiences.
Broadcast professionals visiting the facility have praised the technical achievement, with several international networks reportedly exploring collaborations. The project underscores Asia's growing influence in global media infrastructure as demand for high-resolution content continues to rise.
