China, Cuba Strengthen Ties with Mutual Support Pledges

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed Beijing's commitment to Cuba during high-level talks in the capital on February 5, 2026, as both nations pledged to deepen cooperation amid global challenges. The meeting with Cuba's Special Envoy Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla highlighted shared priorities in sovereignty protection and development rights.

Wang emphasized China's unwavering support for Cuba's efforts to resist external interference, stating: 'We will continue standing together against unilateral sanctions and defend the principles of international justice.' The discussions focused on implementing bilateral agreements signed during recent leadership exchanges.

Rodriguez expressed gratitude for China's consistent assistance, particularly in overcoming economic pressures from foreign sanctions. The Cuban envoy reiterated Havana's firm adherence to the One-China principle, explicitly opposing any form of 'Taiwan independence' separatist activities.

Both sides agreed to expand collaboration in biotechnology, renewable energy, and medical research, building on existing partnerships in healthcare and infrastructure development. The talks concluded with plans for enhanced cultural exchanges and academic cooperation between the two nations.
