US Spring Festival Prelude Event Highlights Cultural Diplomacy, Eyes Brighter China-US Ties

Washington's Lincoln High School became a stage for cross-cultural harmony on February 3 as Tacoma hosted the US leg of the 'Prelude to the Spring Festival Gala' event. Organized by China Media Group (CMG), the gathering marked the third consecutive year of this cultural initiative ahead of the Lunar New Year celebrations.

Bridging Cultures Through Tradition

CMG President Shen Haixiong emphasized the program's growing impact, noting that 'Americans from all walks of life are increasingly participating in Spring Festival traditions.' The 2026 edition featured 25 students from Lincoln High School performing bilingual musical numbers, blending the Chinese classic 'On the Fields of Hope' with the English anthem 'Stand by Me.'

Diplomatic Thaw Through Cultural Exchange

Chinese Ambassador to the US Xie Feng drew parallels between seasonal renewal and bilateral relations: 'Just as spring melts winter's ice, cultural exchanges can help warm China-US ties.' Tacoma Mayor Anders Ibsen highlighted practical benefits, citing expanded trade partnerships and youth programs developed through the city's China engagement.

Three-Year Legacy of Exchange

Since its 2024 launch, the Prelude series has introduced traditional Chinese arts to over 30 US cities. This year's program coincides with renewed efforts to stabilize diplomatic relations following recent high-level dialogues between Beijing and Washington.
