Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Meeting on 2026 State Institution Priorities

Chinese President Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a high-level meeting of the Political Bureau on January 30, 2026, to review institutional performance and outline strategic priorities for the year. The session focused on aligning state institutions with the newly launched 15th Five-Year Plan and commemorating the CPC’s 105th anniversary.

The meeting affirmed the work of key governing bodies—including the National People’s Congress, State Council, and Supreme People’s Court—in 2025, recognizing their role in achieving the 14th Five-Year Plan’s objectives. Participants emphasized the importance of maintaining centralized Party leadership while addressing economic and social development goals under the 2026-2030 roadmap.

With 2026 marking both a historic Party milestone and the start of a new development cycle, institutions were urged to prioritize innovation-driven growth and policy coordination. The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee received specific directives to ensure high-quality implementation of central decisions.

Analysts suggest this meeting underscores the CPC’s emphasis on institutional synergy as China navigates global economic uncertainties and domestic modernization targets. The outcomes are expected to influence legislative agendas and cross-departmental collaboration throughout the year.
