China has reaffirmed its commitment to stabilizing economic ties with the United States in 2026, emphasizing dialogue to address differences and expand cooperation. The announcement follows five rounds of bilateral consultations held last year under the guidance of both nations' leaders, which the Chinese Ministry of Commerce described as yielding "positive outcomes."
Ministry spokesperson He Yongqian stated on January 29 that sustained communication through the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism has advanced the implementation of agreements reached during the 2025 Kuala Lumpur talks and the leaders' meeting in Busan. "Equal dialogue remains the cornerstone of resolving disputes," He emphasized, highlighting progress in areas such as market access and regulatory alignment.
Analysts note that the continued use of established consultation channels reflects both sides' pragmatic approach to managing competition while pursuing shared economic stability goals. The ministry did not specify agenda items for upcoming talks but confirmed plans to build on existing frameworks to ensure "stable, sound, and sustainable" relations.
