China, Azerbaijan Vow to Deepen Strategic Partnership in 2026

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov pledged to advance bilateral cooperation during high-level talks in Beijing this week, signaling renewed momentum for the countries' comprehensive strategic partnership established in 2025.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the need to strengthen development strategy alignment and explore new growth areas in trade, technology, and infrastructure. "As Global South nations, we must champion true multilateralism and reform global governance systems," Wang stated during the January 28 meeting.

The discussions highlighted Azerbaijan's endorsement of China's global governance initiatives and both nations' commitment to coordinating positions within multilateral frameworks like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Bayramov noted that upgraded bilateral relations have already increased Chinese investment in Azerbaijan's transportation and energy sectors.

Analysts observe the partnership could enhance Eurasian connectivity under China's Belt and Road Initiative, with Azerbaijan serving as a crucial hub between Asia and Europe. The ministers also discussed expanding cultural exchanges and educational cooperation to strengthen people-to-people ties.
