China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun issued a firm response on Tuesday to recent remarks by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding Taiwan, emphasizing that Japan has “no right whatsoever” to comment on the Taiwan region from historical or legal perspectives. The statement underscores Beijing’s resolve to safeguard its sovereignty amid rising regional tensions.
Speaking at a regular press conference, Guo stressed that Taiwan has been an inseparable part of Chinese territory since ancient times, citing historical records and post-World War II international agreements. He urged Tokyo to “cease causing trouble on the Taiwan question” and to adhere strictly to the One-China principle, a cornerstone of Sino-Japanese diplomatic relations since 1972.
The remarks follow heightened diplomatic exchanges this month, as cross-strait ties remain a focal point in Asia’s geopolitical landscape. Analysts suggest Japan’s recent statements could complicate efforts to stabilize regional trade and security frameworks ahead of key APEC meetings later this year.
