China, U.S. Pledge Economic Cooperation Amid Global Challenges

China has reaffirmed its commitment to working with the United States to stabilize economic ties and expand cooperation, according to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on January 26, 2026. Vice Minister of Commerce Yan Dong emphasized that both nations successfully conducted five rounds of economic and trade consultations last year, achieving "positive outcomes" through equal dialogue.

The progress follows a pivotal meeting between Chinese and U.S. leaders in Busan late last year, which established frameworks for resolving differences and advancing shared goals. Yan noted that ongoing communication through bilateral mechanisms has helped implement key agreements, including those from the Kuala Lumpur economic talks.

"This demonstrates our capacity to find solutions through mutual respect and practical engagement," Yan stated during a press conference organized by the State Council Information Office. He added that China remains willing to uphold the principles of win-win cooperation and sustainable development in 2026.

Analysts suggest the renewed focus on economic coordination reflects broader efforts to mitigate supply chain uncertainties and stabilize global markets. The two economies, which collectively account for over 40% of global GDP, are also expected to address emerging challenges in green technology and digital trade frameworks this year.
