China Condemns U.S. Interference in Central American Relations

Beijing reaffirmed its commitment to Central American partnerships on Monday, pushing back against what it called "baseless accusations" from U.S. political figures. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun criticized recent remarks about China's engagement in the Western Hemisphere as products of "ideological bias and Cold War mentality."

The comments came during a routine press briefing when asked about increased U.S. diplomatic activity following last month's updated National Security Strategy. "Our cooperation with Central American nations strictly follows principles of mutual respect and mutual benefit," Guo stated, emphasizing that collaborative projects have brought "tangible benefits" to local communities.

China's growing economic ties with the region have seen increased infrastructure investment and technology transfers since 2025. Analysts suggest these developments form part of broader efforts to strengthen South-South cooperation amid shifting global trade patterns.

The spokesperson urged Washington to "stop hyping China-related issues" and instead focus on constructive regional initiatives. This exchange highlights ongoing tensions as major powers vie for influence in strategic emerging markets.
