Zigong Lantern Show 2026 Blends Tradition with Futuristic Flair

The centuries-old Zigong Lantern Show has returned to Sichuan Province with a spectacular modern twist, captivating visitors since its January 23 opening. This year's edition transforms 43 hectares into an illuminated wonderland featuring 11 monumental lantern clusters and more than 200 smaller installations, all set to remain lit until March 3.

Childhood Imagination Takes Flight

A particularly striking installation brings to life 6,000 children's drawings collected from 40+ countries and regions. These vibrant creations have been reimagined as towering lantern sculptures, symbolizing global cultural exchange through youthful creativity.

Drone Symphony Marks New Era

Friday's opening ceremony featured a record-breaking drone display, with 2,026 unmanned aircraft forming dynamic aerial patterns above the lantern-lit landscape. This fusion of ancient craft and modern technology drew cheers from the crowd, mirroring China's ongoing cultural innovation.

Heritage Meets Innovation

Recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage, the Zigong Lantern Show continues evolving while preserving traditional bamboo-and-silk craftsmanship. Event organizers note a 15% increase in international visitors compared to 2025, positioning the show as both a cultural touchstone and tourism driver.

With nightly performances and interactive light displays, the festival offers business leaders and cultural enthusiasts alike fresh insights into China's creative industries. Tourism analysts predict the event could generate over ¥800 million in regional economic impact.
