Chinese Startup Aims for 2028 Suborbital Space Tourism Launch

InterstellOr, a private Chinese aerospace startup founded in early 2023, has unveiled plans to launch commercial suborbital space tourism flights by 2028. The company announced on January 23, 2026, that its CYZ1 spacecraft will carry paying passengers to the edge of space at 100 kilometers above Earth—the internationally recognized Kármán line boundary.

Priced at 3 million yuan ($430,000) per seat, the 90-minute flight promises 3-6 minutes of weightlessness and panoramic views of Earth. Twenty individuals, including professionals from entertainment, technology, and business sectors, have already secured reservations.

‘This program demonstrates the vitality of China’s commercial space sector,’ said a company spokesperson. Aviation experts note the timeline aligns with broader Asian efforts to democratize space access, though regulatory approvals and final safety certifications remain pending.

The announcement comes as multiple Asia-Pacific economies accelerate investments in space infrastructure, with the global suborbital tourism market projected to exceed $4 billion by 2030.
