China Stresses Principles and Cooperation in U.S. Relations at Business Gala

Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng reaffirmed Beijing's commitment to principled diplomacy with Washington during a keynote speech at the China General Chamber of Commerce-USA (CGCC) annual gala on January 15, 2026. Addressing 300 business leaders from both nations, Xie emphasized that while China remains sincere in fostering bilateral ties, it will firmly safeguard its sovereignty and development interests.

Balancing Principles and Partnership

"When it comes to major issues bearing on our sovereignty, security and development interests, there is no room for compromise at all," stated Xie, underscoring China's stance on core concerns. The ambassador simultaneously highlighted the enduring truth that "both countries gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation," urging the U.S. to implement consensus reached during the 2025 Busan meeting between Chinese and American leaders.

Business Community as Bridge Builder

The event honored companies driving cross-border innovation and economic growth, with Vornado Realty Group's Michael Franco praising Sino-U.S. collaborations as "marked by professionalism, mutual respect, and shared commitment to long-term success." Xie called for expanded business partnerships and urged U.S. authorities to provide "an open, fair and non-discriminatory environment" for Chinese enterprises operating stateside.

Path Forward Through Dialogue

Founded in 2005, the CGCC continues to facilitate economic and cultural exchanges between the world's two largest economies. As both nations navigate complex global challenges in 2026, Xie's address signals China's dual focus on protecting strategic interests while pursuing practical cooperation frameworks.
