China has unveiled its third international documentary coproduction program this month, establishing a structured framework spanning project selection, mentorship, and distribution to strengthen cross-cultural storytelling. Launched in Beijing on January 17, 2026, the initiative connects content creators worldwide with Chinese production teams to develop narratives showcasing China's social development and cultural heritage.
The program builds on two previous successful editions that produced award-winning films about urban revitalization projects and Uygur folk traditions. This year's iteration introduces virtual collaboration platforms enabling real-time creative partnerships between overseas participants and mainland producers.
Cultural authorities emphasize the project's role in "building people-to-people connectivity through authentic storytelling." Selected documentaries will receive funding from China's National Cultural Development Fund and guaranteed screening slots on streaming platforms across Asia.
