An international collaboration led by students from France's prestigious Gobelins animation school is making waves in the global film industry. The Shyness of Trees, a short animated film co-directed by seven students including Chinese creator Shu Bingqing, has been shortlisted for Best Animated Short Film at the 98th Academy Awards.
The project, developed through Franco-Chinese creative partnership, has already garnered recognition at over 30 international animation festivals this year. Four Chinese team members contributed to the film's unique visual language that blends Eastern narrative traditions with European animation techniques.
In a recent interview, Shu emphasized the cross-cultural nature of the production: "Our team's diversity became our strength. We synthesized different storytelling approaches to create something truly universal." The film now awaits final nomination announcements, with results expected to influence investment trends in Asia's growing animation sector.
Industry analysts note the achievement highlights increasing global recognition for Asian creative talent, particularly following 2025's record investments in China's digital content industries. The outcome could impact cultural exchange programs between Asian and European art institutions through 2026.
