Hainan Sets Record in Green Energy Trade for 2025

Hainan, China's southern island province, achieved a historic milestone in green energy transactions last year, with 14.727 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity and certificates traded in 2025, according to data released by the provincial power exchange center on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. This figure marks a 32% year-on-year increase and underscores the region's accelerating shift toward renewable energy.

The surge is attributed to Hainan's strategic investments in offshore wind farms and solar parks, which now supply 45% of the province's electricity. Analysts highlight that the transactions—covering both domestic buyers and overseas investors—reflect growing demand for carbon-neutral solutions across Asian markets. Notably, industrial zones in Guangdong and Fujian accounted for 60% of purchases, signaling cross-regional collaboration.

"This achievement aligns with China's national carbon neutrality goals," said a representative from the Hainan Power Exchange Center. "We're seeing unprecedented interest from tech manufacturers and EV battery producers seeking sustainable energy contracts."

With APEC members increasingly prioritizing green energy partnerships, Hainan's success positions it as a key player in Asia's renewable supply chain. The province aims to expand its green energy capacity by 20% in 2026, leveraging its tropical climate and deep-water port advantages.
