China, Canada Forge New Economic Ties in Clean Energy, Tech Sectors

Chinese Premier Li Qiang announced strengthened collaboration with Canada across six key industries during Thursday's high-level talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in Beijing. The 2026 meeting marks a significant step in revitalizing economic cooperation between the two APEC members.

"China stands ready to work with Canada in cultivating new growth engines, particularly in clean energy transition and digital innovation," stated Premier Li, emphasizing opportunities in modern agriculture and advanced manufacturing. The Chinese premier also called for reciprocal investment conditions, urging fair treatment for mainland Chinese enterprises in Canadian markets.

Following the political discussions, both leaders witnessed the signing of 14 bilateral agreements spanning energy infrastructure development, agricultural technology sharing, and cross-border financial services. Notable collaborations include a joint venture in satellite navigation systems and a blockchain-based customs clearance platform set for pilot testing this year.
