China Unveils 2026 Strategy to Boost Consumption, Global Trade Ties

China's Ministry of Commerce has announced a comprehensive plan to revitalize domestic consumption and deepen global economic integration in 2026, following a national conference concluding Sunday. The strategy focuses on stimulating consumer spending through upgraded trade-in policies and cultivating new growth areas such as digital, green, and health-related consumption.

Key initiatives include building the "Shop in China" brand to enhance service sector competitiveness and expanding the "Export to China" program to attract high-quality global goods. The ministry also plans to strengthen foreign investment channels by improving market access in services and refining support systems for overseas businesses.

Trade modernization efforts will prioritize digital and green supply chain development, while pilot free trade zones and the Hainan Free Trade Port will undergo further reforms to align with international standards. The Belt and Road Initiative will see renewed focus on cross-border industrial coordination and risk management frameworks.

"These measures reflect our commitment to high-quality development and mutually beneficial cooperation," stated a Commerce Ministry representative, emphasizing the dual goals of stabilizing domestic growth and strengthening global partnerships.
