As the Lunar New Year approaches, Shenyang Museum has launched a vibrant cultural celebration with Huang Guangliang’s ‘Year of the Horse’ oil painting exhibition, which opened on January 6. Featuring over 40 works, the show transforms the horse from a physical subject into a dynamic symbol of resilience and renewal, resonating with themes of spring and new beginnings.
The exhibition’s three thematic sections guide visitors from lifelike equestrian portraits to bold abstract interpretations, showcasing Huang’s mastery of diverse artistic styles. Crowds have been observed lingering at canvases, absorbing the interplay of color and emotion that shifts between traditional symbolism and modern expression.
Organized as part of Shenyang’s 2026 New Year cultural programming, the free-admission event will run through April, aligning with the Lunar Year of the Horse. Curators emphasize its role in bridging regional heritage with contemporary art trends, offering both residents and international visitors a culturally rich experience during the festive season.
