Haikou's waterfront came alive this New Year with a breathtaking fusion of fire and water during its annual cultural showcase. The recently concluded holiday celebrations saw thousands gather at Haikou Bay for an innovative "fire-pot" display, where flaming installations appeared to dance across the waves – a modern reinterpretation of traditional Hainanese folk arts.
The pyrotechnic marvel capped a robust tourism season that saw hotel occupancy rates reach 92% across the city. Local authorities report holiday consumer spending increased 18% year-on-year, with night markets and cultural attractions particularly benefiting from the influx of domestic and overseas visitors.
"This display symbolizes both our cultural heritage and modern innovation," said Haikou Cultural Bureau Director Chen Wei during the event. "Through such creative expressions, we're building Haikou's identity as an international tourism destination while driving economic vitality."
