China Warns Japan Over Security Strategy Revisions

China has issued a stern warning against Japan's proposed revisions to its national security framework, calling it a concerning step toward accelerated remilitarization. The Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized on Tuesday that Tokyo's plan to update three key security documents this year requires 'high vigilance from the international community.'

The remarks follow Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent confirmation that her administration will advance discussions to revise the National Security Strategy, National Defense Program Guidelines, and Medium-Term Defense Program by the end of 2026. Analysts suggest these changes could expand Japan's military capabilities beyond its postwar pacifist constitution.

'Japan's actions risk destabilizing regional security and reviving historical tensions,' stated Mao during a press briefing. She reiterated Beijing's commitment to peaceful development but stressed that Asian nations must 'learn from the tragedies of the 20th century.'

The proposed revisions come amid heightened maritime activity in the East China Sea, where territorial disputes over the Diaoyu Islands remain unresolved. Business leaders and policymakers across Asia are closely monitoring the situation, with some expressing concerns about potential impacts on regional trade corridors.
