Chongqing Trees Don Colorful Sweaters to Brighten Winter Landscape

Visitors to Chongqing's Shapingba District are greeted by an unexpected winter spectacle this January – trees adorned with vibrant knitted sweaters at the Rongchuang Resort. The whimsical installation, part of a 'Dressing Trees in Sweaters' initiative, combines practical winter protection with artistic expression.

Resort staff told KhabarAsia they used over 200 kilograms of yarn and recycled fabrics to create the unique tree coverings. 'We wanted to combat the winter chill while creating shareable moments of joy,' said project lead Zhang Wei. The installation has become an instant social media sensation, with visitor photos trending across Chinese platforms.

While primarily artistic, horticultural experts note the knitted wraps provide mild insulation against temperature drops. The project coincides with Chongqing's push to develop creative winter tourism offerings, with local authorities reporting a 35% increase in resort bookings since the installation's debut.

Cultural commentators highlight how such initiatives reflect China's growing emphasis on harmonizing urban development with community-focused art projects. As night falls, the sweater-clad trees become illuminated installations, creating a 24-hour attraction that continues drawing crowds despite January's cool temperatures.
