Drones & Robots Revolutionize Chinese Opera at 2025 Sci-Tech Gala

In a breathtaking display of cultural innovation, last year's China Sci-Tech Innovation Gala in Hefei redefined artistic expression through 10,000 synchronized drones painting classic opera scenes across the night sky. Robotic performers shared the stage with veteran opera artists, their mechanical precision complementing centuries-old vocal techniques in what organizers called "a dialogue between ancestral wisdom and artificial intelligence."

The production commemorated the 235th anniversary of the Four Anhui Opera Troupes' historic 1790 Beijing journey – the cultural exchange that eventually gave birth to Peking Opera. Through holographic projections, audiences witnessed digital recreations of 18th-century performers alongside real-time robotic movements, creating a temporal bridge between dynastic China and its tech-driven future.

Hefei City officials emphasized this fusion aligns with China's national strategy to digitize cultural heritage. A CMG spokesperson noted: "When robots replicate the 72 distinct eye movements of classic opera roles, we're not replacing tradition – we're creating new pathways for global appreciation."
