Chinese Mainland Warns Against ‘Playing with Fire’ on Taiwan Issue

Mainland Reiterates Stance Amid US-Taiwan Arms Deal Tensions

A Chinese mainland spokesperson issued a stern warning on December 31, 2025, declaring that any forces 'playing with fire' regarding Taiwan will face severe consequences. The statement comes as cross-strait tensions escalate following the United States' recent approval of arms sales to the Taiwan region.

DPP's 'Independence' Agenda Faces Strong Opposition

Zhang Han of the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office criticized the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities for attempting to 'solicit external support' through meetings with Japanese politicians. She emphasized that efforts to pursue 'Taiwan independence' through foreign military cooperation or political collusion are 'doomed to fail,' particularly citing concerns over Japan's right-wing militarization trends.

Global Responses Under Scrutiny

The spokesperson also addressed Honduras' new presidential administration, urging adherence to the one-China principle. Zhang stressed this policy remains a 'universal consensus' in international relations, while reaffirming Beijing's commitment to peaceful reunification through enhanced cross-strait economic and cultural exchanges.
