China Rejects UK Criticism Over Taiwan Drills, Urges Non-Interference

The Chinese Embassy in the UK issued a forceful rebuke on Wednesday to British officials regarding recent military exercises near the Taiwan region, calling the remarks “a blatant interference in China’s internal affairs.” The statement comes amid heightened tensions following People’s Liberation Army (PLA) drills conducted as a response to what Beijing describes as separatist activities.

An embassy spokesperson emphasized that Taiwan has been an inseparable part of China since ancient times, stating: “The Taiwan question is purely China’s internal affair. The real threat to peace stems from Taiwan independence forces and external actors emboldening them.” The PLA exercises were characterized as lawful measures to defend national sovereignty against separatist provocations.

The UK Foreign Office had earlier called for restraint, urging all parties to avoid actions that might destabilize the Taiwan Strait. China countered by demanding strict adherence to the one-China principle, reminding London of its diplomatic commitments. “No country has the right to make irresponsible comments on China’s core interests,” the embassy warned, urging an immediate end to what it termed “collusion with Taiwan separatists.”

Analysts suggest the exchange reflects growing global attention on cross-strait dynamics as regional security architectures evolve. The Chinese government maintains that military preparedness remains essential to counter what it views as escalating external interference in Taiwan affairs.
