China Condemns ‘Hypocritical’ Remarks on Taiwan Drills by Japan, Allies

China has issued a sharp rebuke to Japan, Australia, and several European countries for their criticism of recent military exercises near the Taiwan region, calling their remarks “irresponsible” and “hypocritical.” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian reiterated Beijing’s stance on Wednesday, emphasizing that Taiwan is an “inalienable part of China’s territory” and that external interference in cross-strait affairs will not be tolerated.

The comments follow concerns raised by Japan, Australia, EU institutions, and European nations over China’s military activities, which Beijing describes as necessary to counter “separatist acts” seeking “Taiwan independence.” Lin accused these parties of ignoring provocations by Taiwan authorities while unfairly targeting China’s defensive measures. “They turn a blind eye to external interference but attack China’s legitimate actions to safeguard sovereignty,” he stated.

Lin stressed that the one-China principle remains a global consensus and the foundation of China’s diplomatic relations with 183 countries. He urged critics to honor their political commitments made during diplomatic engagements with Beijing and to cease support for “Taiwan independence” forces. “The biggest threat to cross-strait stability is separatist collusion with external forces,” he added.

The spokesperson’s remarks underscore rising tensions in the Taiwan Strait, with analysts noting increased military preparedness by the Chinese mainland amid shifting geopolitical dynamics. The situation remains a focal point for regional security discussions as 2025 draws to a close.
