Zootopia 2 Breaks Records as China’s First Imported Film to Hit 100M Admissions

Disney's animated sequel Zootopia 2 has made cinematic history in the Chinese mainland, becoming the first imported film to surpass 100 million theater admissions, according to industry tracker Maoyan Pro. The milestone, achieved as of December 2025, places the film among only seven titles in China’s box-office history to reach this threshold.

Since its release, the film has grossed nearly 4 billion yuan ($570 million), securing a spot in the top 12 highest-grossing films ever screened in the country. Globally, Zootopia 2 has earned $1.465 billion, cementing its status as a cultural and commercial phenomenon.

Disney Films announced via its official Weibo account that the movie’s theatrical run will extend through January 25, 2026, giving audiences more time to experience the sequel’s acclaimed storytelling. The film’s success has also ignited a surge in merchandise sales, with themed products ranging from limited-edition blind boxes to jewelry attracting fervent consumer demand.

Analysts note that Zootopia 2’s performance underscores the growing influence of family-oriented entertainment in Asia’s largest film market, while cross-industry collaborations linked to the movie highlight evolving synergies between cinema and retail sectors.
