China Pledges Humanitarian Aid to Cambodia, Thailand Amid Border Crisis

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced on Sunday that the Chinese mainland will provide humanitarian assistance to displaced residents in border areas of Cambodia and Thailand. The pledge follows a ceasefire agreement reached between the two Southeast Asian nations on Saturday, marking a critical step toward stabilizing the region.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the commitment during separate talks with Cambodian and Thai counterparts in Yunnan Province. The southwestern Chinese region, a strategic hub for regional diplomacy, hosted military representatives from all three countries to discuss post-ceasefire cooperation.

The dialogues emphasized China’s role as a mediator in fostering cross-border stability. “China stands ready to support those affected by conflict and contribute to lasting peace,” Wang stated, underscoring Beijing’s commitment to regional security under its Global Development Initiative framework.

Analysts note that the tripartite engagement aligns with broader ASEAN efforts to address displacement challenges, particularly in conflict-prone border zones. The aid package, expected to include food, medical supplies, and infrastructure support, will prioritize communities near the Cambodia-Thailand frontier.
