Yinchuan Welcomes 2026 with Dazzling Themed Lantern Show

Yinchuan, capital of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, launched its 2026 New Year celebrations with a grand themed lantern show at Flower Expo Park on December 27. The event, featuring over 100 elaborate installations, showcases China's cultural heritage while signaling renewed tourism confidence in the region.

Five immersive zones display lanterns reaching 13 meters tall, including galloping horse sculptures symbolizing progress and mythological motifs reimagined through modern lighting technology. Local artisans collaborated with digital designers to create interactive displays blending tradition with innovation.

"This exhibition celebrates our cultural roots while looking to the future," said event coordinator Li Wei during the opening ceremony. The show runs through January 15, 2026, coinciding with peak winter travel season.

Analysts note the timing aligns with China's push to develop winter tourism in western regions. Hotel bookings in Yinchuan have increased 40% compared to last December, according to regional tourism data.
