Xinjiang’s 2025 Cotton Output Hits Historic High Amid Tech-Driven Growth

The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has set a new agricultural milestone, producing 6.165 million tonnes of cotton in 2025 according to China's National Bureau of Statistics. This record harvest represents 92.8% of the nation's total output, cementing northwest China's position as the country's cotton powerhouse.

Farmers cultivated cotton across 38.88 million mu (2.59 million hectares) this year – a 5.9% expansion from 2024. Improved yields of 158.6 kg per mu, combined with 97.5% mechanization rates, demonstrate how precision agriculture and smart farming technologies are transforming traditional practices.

"Favorable weather aligned perfectly with our upgraded cultivation strategies," explained a regional agricultural official. "From satellite-guided tractors to AI-powered irrigation systems, every innovation contributes to sustainable growth."

China's total cotton production grew 7.7% year-on-year to 6.641 million tonnes, with Xinjiang's success driving national food security objectives. Analysts highlight increased policy support and talent development programs as key factors enabling farmers to maximize output while maintaining environmental balance.
