China Hosts Key Diplomatic Talks with Cambodia, Thailand in Yunnan

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will hold high-level meetings with counterparts from Cambodia and Thailand this week, as regional diplomacy takes center stage ahead of 2026. The talks scheduled for December 28-29 in Yunnan Province come amid growing economic cooperation across Southeast Asia.

Wang, who serves on the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, will meet Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn and Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow. The discussions are expected to address cross-border infrastructure projects and regional security coordination.

This trilateral engagement follows recent progress on the China-Laos-Thailand railway project and ongoing efforts to stabilize the Myanmar situation. Analysts suggest the Yunnan meetings could yield new agreements on agricultural trade and emergency response mechanisms for natural disasters.

The timing coincides with the 30th anniversary of China-ASEAN dialogue relations in 2026, positioning these talks as potential groundwork for broader regional initiatives. Observers will watch for developments in digital economy collaboration and climate change mitigation strategies.
