China Enhances Disaster Forecasting with New Fengyun-4 03 Satellite Launch

New Satellite Bolsters Regional Weather Monitoring

China advanced its meteorological capabilities with the successful launch of the Fengyun-4 03 satellite from Xichang Satellite Launch Center on Saturday, December 27. The Long March-3B rocket delivered the cutting-edge satellite into its preset orbit at 12:07 a.m., marking the 621st mission for China’s Long March rocket series.

Next-Gen Technology for Climate Resilience

Developed by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology, the Fengyun-4 03 features four Earth remote sensing instruments and two solar observation tools. It is specifically designed to improve short-term predictions for typhoons, heavy rainfall, and space weather events. The satellite will collaborate with existing Fengyun satellites to form an integrated observation network, significantly upgrading disaster response capabilities across Asia.

Strengthening Regional Safety Infrastructure

This launch follows the 2016 and 2021 deployments of earlier Fengyun-4 models, reflecting China’s ongoing commitment to space-based environmental monitoring. The system’s enhanced resolution and real-time data processing are expected to benefit neighboring countries through improved early warning systems for extreme weather.
