Iran Praises China’s JCPOA Role Amid Renewed UN Security Council Dialogue

Iran publicly acknowledged China's diplomatic efforts to uphold the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) during a United Nations Security Council meeting this week, highlighting Beijing's consistent advocacy for multilateral solutions to nuclear non-proliferation challenges. The December 23 session, convened at member states' request, brought fresh attention to the 2015 nuclear agreement's implementation challenges.

Chinese Deputy Permanent Representative Sun Lei reiterated Beijing's position that the 2018 U.S. withdrawal from the JCPOA and subsequent sanctions against Iran undermined international consensus. "China has always maintained that dialogue and consultation are the only correct way to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue," Sun stated, emphasizing Beijing's commitment to preserving the agreement's framework.

The meeting occurs as global energy markets watch for potential shifts in Iranian oil exports, with analysts noting increased economic cooperation between Tehran and Asian partners in 2025. While European representatives urged renewed compliance measures, Russian and Chinese delegates called for comprehensive sanctions relief to facilitate full JCPOA implementation.
