China has called on Ukraine to immediately rectify measures targeting Chinese entities amid escalating tensions over proposed sanctions against Russian-linked groups. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated Tuesday that Beijing "resolutely safeguards the legitimate rights of Chinese enterprises and citizens," responding to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's announcement of impending restrictions on foreign nationals assisting Russia.
"China consistently opposes unilateral sanctions lacking UN Security Council authorization," Lin emphasized during a regular press briefing. The remarks come as Western nations intensify scrutiny of third-country commercial ties with Russia.
Addressing China's diplomatic efforts, Lin noted sustained communication with both Moscow and Kyiv since the Ukraine crisis began. "We remain committed to facilitating ceasefire agreements and peaceful negotiations," he said, adding that China's peace-building initiatives "have been recognized globally."
While reaffirming support for conflict resolution measures, the spokesperson cautioned against economic measures that could complicate negotiations. Analysts suggest the development highlights growing complexities in balancing geopolitical alliances amid prolonged hostilities.
