Tianchi Lake Winter Festival Blends Romance and Adventure in Xinjiang

As 2025 draws to a close, Xinjiang's Tianchi Lake has emerged as a premier winter destination, combining cultural traditions with breathtaking landscapes. The frozen alpine lake, framed by snow-draped peaks, now hosts a unique marriage registration center where couples can exchange vows against the dramatic backdrop of Maya Mountain.

Local tourism authorities report that newlyweds who complete their registration at the site gain access to curated travel packages, including guided snow hikes and photography sessions capturing the area's ethereal winter light. "This initiative celebrates both our natural heritage and cultural values," said Zhao Wei, a regional tourism official, in a statement released this week.

The program aligns with broader efforts to position Xinjiang as a year-round travel hub while showcasing Uygur cultural elements through winter festivals. Adventure seekers can also explore newly marked ice-climbing routes along the lake's glacial formations, with safety equipment provided by licensed outfitters.
