The Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) commemorated the 26th anniversary of its return to China with a solemn flag-raising ceremony at Golden Lotus Square on December 20, 2025. The event, attended by SAR Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai and senior officials, underscored Macao's integration with national development strategies and its commitment to the "One Country, Two Systems" principle.
During the ceremony, Legislative Council member Song Pek Kei emphasized Macao's upcoming role in China's 15th Five-Year Plan, set to begin in 2026. She highlighted the region's preparation for its "Three-Five" development plan, which aims to align local growth with broader national objectives. "Proactive integration will unlock new opportunities for Macao," Song stated, urging youth to contribute to both regional and national progress.
Young resident Huang Tzu Tsai expressed pride in Macao's stability since its return, attributing its success to mainland support. "The flags rising together symbolize our unity and shared future," he told China Media Group.
Officials reiterated Macao's strategic focus on economic diversification and youth empowerment, positioning the region as a bridge for international cooperation within Asia's evolving geopolitical landscape.
