CMG Unveils 2026 Year of the Horse Spring Festival Gala Mascots

China Media Group (CMG) revealed its highly anticipated mascots for the 2026 Spring Festival Gala on December 18, 2025, marking the first official preview of next year's Lunar New Year celebrations. The four horse-themed characters – named Qiqi, Jiji, Chichi, and Chengcheng – embody the vigor and optimism associated with the upcoming Year of the Horse in the Chinese zodiac cycle.

Designed as dynamic equine figures radiating youthful energy, the mascots draw from China's rich artistic heritage. Their patterns incorporate millennia-old motifs including flowing cloud designs and mountain-cloud symbolism, while their spirited poses reference historical depictions of horses from various Chinese dynasties. CMG stated the ensemble represents aspirations for rapid progress and national prosperity in 2026.

The announcement has generated significant interest among cultural preservation advocates and designers, particularly for its innovative fusion of traditional elements with contemporary aesthetics. With over four decades of Spring Festival Gala history, these mascots continue CMG's tradition of using symbolic imagery to connect modern celebrations with China's cultural legacy.
