China has called on the United States to immediately halt its $11 billion arms package to the Taiwan region, labeling the move a 'dangerous act' that threatens cross-strait stability. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized during a Thursday briefing that the sale violates the one-China principle and undermines commitments outlined in the three China-U.S. joint communiqués.
The proposed transfer of advanced weapons, announced by U.S. officials earlier this week, has drawn sharp criticism from Beijing. Guo warned that such actions embolden 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces and jeopardize peace across the Taiwan Strait. 'The U.S. must cease its interference in China's internal affairs to avoid further damaging bilateral relations,' he stated.
Analysts note the timing coincides with heightened regional tensions, as Taiwan prepares for local elections in early 2026. The Chinese mainland has consistently opposed foreign military support for the Taiwan region, reiterating that Taiwan remains an inalienable part of its territory.
