Mainland Reaffirms Opposition to Foreign Interference in Taiwan Affairs

The Chinese mainland has reiterated its firm stance against external involvement in Taiwan matters, with State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhu Fenglian warning on Wednesday that attempts to pursue 'independence' through foreign alliances threaten regional stability.

The remarks came in response to reports about the Taiwan region's leader, Lai Ching-te, advancing plans to acquire U.S. weaponry. Zhu criticized Lai's administration for escalating defense spending and promoting what she called 'provocative separatist agendas' under the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

'Such actions endanger the security and well-being of Taiwan residents,' Zhu stated, emphasizing that cross-strait reunification remains an inevitable historical trend. She affirmed Beijing's capability to 'defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity,' declaring any push for 'Taiwan independence' a futile endeavor.

The spokesperson urged adherence to the One-China principle, noting that peaceful development of cross-strait relations serves the fundamental interests of all Chinese people, including residents in Taiwan.
