China, Egypt Strengthen Ties, Discuss Gaza Reconstruction in Key Talks

Strategic Partnership Deepens Amid Regional Challenges

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held pivotal phone talks on December 17, 2025, reaffirming their commitment to bilateral cooperation and addressing the protracted humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The discussion highlighted plans to elevate the China-Egypt comprehensive strategic partnership ahead of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026.

Focus on Multilateral Collaboration

Wang emphasized China's readiness to host the second China-Arab States Summit in 2026, noting Egypt's pivotal role as an Arab world leader. Both ministers agreed to enhance coordination on post-conflict governance in Gaza, with Wang stressing the need to uphold "Palestinians governing Palestine" and implement a two-state solution. China also announced new humanitarian assistance to support Gaza's recovery.

Egypt Reaffirms One-China Principle

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's firm opposition to foreign interference in China's internal affairs, explicitly supporting the one-China principle and affirming that Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory. The two sides pledged to deepen practical cooperation in trade, technology, and multilateral forums, aligning with President Xi Jinping's global development initiatives.
